The future of European Agricultural Policy - Call for Public Debate

21 Apr 2010

The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development has launched a public debate on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy in the European Union.

The debate centres around 4 main questions:

  • Why do we need a European Common Agricultural Policy?
  • What are society's objectives for agriculture in all its diversity?
  • Why should we reform the CAP and how can we make it meet society's expectations?
  • What tools do we need for tomorrow's CAP?
  • You can contribute to the debate, and find out more about its purpose, via a dedicated website that has been set up to receive comments until 3rd June 2010. Following this, an independent body will produce a summary of the contributions received and the findings will be presented at a conference in July 2010. These will be used to help inform the European Commission's Communication on the CAP after 2013 which should be presented at the end of 2010.
