The Carnegie Trust's Charter for Rural Communities was published in 2007, advocating asset-based rural development from a UK and Ireland perspective. The Trust is now bringing to a close an exciting Rural Action Research Programme comprising the work of 44 of some of the most progressive and innovative communities and organisations. We are due to launch our new publication 'A Manifesto for Rural Communities - inspiring community innovation' in October as a summary of the messages coming from the action research work.
Carnegie's Rural Programme is also developing a "Community of Practice" for those involved in progressive rural development. The Trust is providing an annual programme of events, seminars, festivals along with videos and podcasts. We also support virtual debate via a social networking site: www.fieryspirits.com. The Trust is now also working intensively with a group of pioneering partners, namely the Centre for Alternative Technology; the Falkland Centre for Stewardship; the Tipperary Institute and the Eden Project to test innovations in the areas of food and farming, community engagement and our transition to a zero carbon society.
